The forum was set up at an event in March 2006. Since then various organisations have been involved in the steering group to move things forward.

The steering group is represented at the Strategic Disability Partnership Board (SDP).
Equality Forum

The key aim of the Equality Forum is to address equality issues as they affect different communities of interest. It is an opportunity for groups to raise issues with the leader of the council and senior council officers at quarterly meetings. All issues raised at forum meetings are reported back on at future meetings.

The communities of interest involved are: - Disability, Race, Lesbian, Gay and Bi-sexual (LGB), Age and women.

Each group is organised as a ‘hub’. A hub is a network of organisations and individuals who represent a particular group. The Disability Hub is made up of people representing physical disability, mental health, learning disability, visual impairment and deaf groups.

The Disabled Peoples Forum has developed links with the Disability Hub and can raise issues at the Equality Forum.
