What are Access Groups? Formed in 1981, Bradford Access Action is an organisation dedicated to the inclusion of people with access needs in everyday life and activities.

Whether you are a parent with a young child needing changing facilities, a wheelchair user wishing to gain access to a building or a vision impaired person having difficulty crossing the road, Bradford Access Action’s mission is to highlight theses problems in our environment and bring them to the attention of the professionals so that changes can be made.

The groups objectives are: Access groups have been formed across the country in order to improve access to buildings, facilities and services, including transport and public footpaths.

Typical key issues Access Groups are likely to be involved with are:

  • To advise on ways to meet the access needs of people with all forms of impairment.
  • To consider the needs of disabled people and examine the facilities available to them.
  • To work closely with relevant statutory and non statutory organisations in the community.
  • To ensure the Disability Discrimination Act and the Disability Equality Duty are fully carried out.

Recent initiatives Bradford Access Action has been involved in:

  • Working towards the removal of street and paving obstructions.
  • Publicizing the misuse of disabled parking bays.
  • Producing a detailed report “What’s it Really Like?” on the availability of wheelchair accessible taxis in Bradford.

Activities & Timetables: Bradford Access Action group members meet regularly on the second Wednesday of every month. If you want to find out more about what we do or are simply interested in access issues then please feel free to give us a ring or drop in and watch what goes on. Meetings take place at Morley Street Resource Centre, parking spaces available.
