Who are you: This group was formed by a few local Ataxia sufferers in 1991 and over the years has used various meeting venues in the Bradford area.

The group largely serves the county of West Yorkshire but has had members in North and South of Yorkshire also. Currently the membership starts at 40+ and we meet bi-monthly at Neville Grange in Shipley, West Yorkshire. This venue is located 3 miles outside of Bradford centre and has full disabled facilities, adequate private parking and provision for tea and coffee.

Our meetings are very informal and we aim to provide a relaxed and sociable atmosphere where members can discuss their thoughts and problems. Wherever possible we arrange suitable speakers to talk to us about benefits, therapies and members hobbies etc. At various times we have also organised Awareness Days and fundraising events in the community.

Over the years since the group was established we have sent various donations totaling several thousands pounds to Ataxia UK, which is a national organisation responsible for research and support for all Ataxia sufferers.

ATAXIA- What is
it?
Ataxia is a symptom, not a specific disease or diagnosis. Ataxia means clumsiness or loss of coordination. Ataxia may affect the fingers and hands, arms, legs, the whole body including speech or eye movements. This loss of coordination may be caused by a number of different medical or neurologic conditions; for this reason, it is important that a person with ataxia seeks medical attention to determine the cause. Ataxia was first diagnosed by a German professor in 1863.
